The mouse was silvery gray with bright black eyes and long whiskers and he contemplated the kitchen from what one could call his sally port if one was of a martial frame of mind. A martial frame of mind would be appropriate as one of the unfamiliar smells causing our musine friend to twitch his whiskers with unusual vigor was the acrid odor of cordite. …
